daycare?

söndag.
this week i have been working at a daycare for elementary school kids.
ive started to wonder about our society today.
how is it that people drop their kids off at 6.30 in the morning and pick them up at 5 in the afternoon?
paying for others to take care of your own kids. day after day.
working 40h/week so that you can buy everything you think you need, sending your kids to daycare in order to do so and then look forward to the five weeks of the summer when you can "actually" hang out with them and go on a vaccation.
i do realize that this is an extreme side of things. many people need daycare sometimes or for a particular season of their life. and it's not all bad.
but when it becomes the majority of where the kids spend their time (except for sleeping) then i think we should reconsider out priorities.
do we need to work 40h/week? really?
in order to have enough for clothes, food and a place to sleep?
or do we need to work 40h/week so that we can buy STUFF.
work gets the best and when we get home we are just tired.
again, it's not like this for everyone. but for a lot of people.
i guess its easy to think and reflect on this when im not in the situation myself.
but i dont want to work more than i need to. or pay for someone else to take care of my kids for the majority of the day.
maybe thats all i needed to say?

  1. Hey Rebecka. Mark Cameron here from College/Scotlland.

I just saw that you're engaged so a thousand congratulations right there!

Interesting blog. I have recently been developing a 4 Hour Work Week. I read the book on this and have recently been redisigning my lifestyle to acoomodate this.

40 hrs a week was introduced by Henry Ford,at the time it was quite revolutionary. It has become a pattern used in many places.

I think the question is whether we need 40 hours for 'income'. And whether our 'work' needs to relate to our income. Many people have used wisdom and outsourcing to develop 4 hours a week of income work. I'm currently developing a music tuition agency that should take care of income, be 4 hrs a week and enable more life.

It challenges the value of working 40 hrs a week for income vs 4 for income and the rest of your time for: dreams, pursuits, ministry, philanthropy and family time!

Wealth surely cannot be soley measured by income but time and mobility as well. Check out

    Great thoughts!

  2. I totally agree with you Rebecka. These are good, great thoughts! When I have kids, that becomes my "job" (for lack of a better word). I can't wait to give all my time to my kids! I think we couldn't be a better blessing to our kids than to make sure they are brought up with their parents around, blessing them in ways that they won't realize until they're older. Great blog. Hope you're having a good time with old Fredster over there with you!
